Career Opportunity: Research Assistant Openings at HPZCBS (Wildlife Wing)

🎯 Job Profiles
Selected candidates will be assigned to specific species-focused programs:
  1. Conservation Breeding Programme Chail (Shimla Wildlife Division): Focused on the Cheer Pheasant.
  2. Conservation Breeding Programme at Sarahan Pheasantry (Sarahan Wildlife Division): Focused on the Western Tragopan.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct faunal surveys via trails/transects, sign surveys, and camera trapping.
  • Execute radio-tracking and post-release monitoring activities for reintroduced pheasants.
  • Conduct habitat quality assessments and socio-economic surveys at reintroduction sites.
  • Prepare technical reports, media briefs, and official presentations.
  • Engage with local communities through awareness workshops.

🎓 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Life Sciences, Wildlife Sciences, or a related discipline.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Working knowledge of R Statistical Program, GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS), and MS Office.
  • Prior experience with radio-tracking and designing biodiversity surveys.
  • Strong English writing skills and essential Hindi speaking skills.
  • Physical capability to undertake extensive field work in high-altitude environments and extreme weather.
Age Limit
  • Applicants must be below 35 years of age as of July 1, 2026.

📊 Selection Process
Applications will first be scrutinized by the Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Dharamshala or the Veterinary Officer (HQ) Wildlife. Candidates will be scored and shortlisted based on their field experience, technical skills (GIS, R), and language capabilities.
The Top 6 applicants will be called for a hybrid/online interview conducted by a panel constituted by the PCCF (WL) - CWLW HP.
